All the newness...

I am toying with a new blog name...may change daily for a week...we will see...for today I am enjoying the "hot Mess"  Ha.

Tigers and Grizzlies and Saucers OH MY!

We met with the guys and one gal from Trey's company last night at the Flying Saucer in Cordova. One, don't go to that one...the guys there are retarded...two, my soup was so salty I could barely eat it (and that is saying something because I love my salt), and three....it's really, really hard to pay attention to 2 basketball games at once when there are only 3 tv's.....sigh. Saucer in Cordova = terrible sports experience.

Good news though, both the Grizz and my Tigers triumphed. It got hairy for the Tigers there at the end, the Herd was not going down so easily. This is my other problem, I love my boys, but heavens to Betsie if I don't nearly have a heart attack at EVERY game this season. I am getting ready for a good long sports drought. This is of course because I hate baseball and refuse to watch it and there is no point in Memphis t watch Hockey...so once basketball is over, I take a sports sabbatical and prepare for the the season to come.

On an entirely different note....I promised my husband that I would not watch American Idol this season....I think my soul is dying a little....I mean really, it's a TV show but I NEED it...ok I don't NEED it bit I want it so badly!!!! Ahhhhh! Sometimes it's the little things like American Idol that just make an evening nice! I am about to decide to break my promise though, because my darling husband promised me for our anniversary back in August that he was done smoking....I thought done smoking meant NEVER...but apparently it means on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays...you see where this is going. I haven't decided what I am going to take as payment for the NON quitting that has occurred....but it's gonna be GOOOD. Bad husband!

Well, better get back at it. 1 our and 50 minutes to lunch out with some fabulous ladies! Yes this day is so slow I am counting....

Until then,

Texas...NO.....

So I am feeling all sad inside on this lovely Monday morning...

My friend is getting a d.i.v.o.r.c.e. ( I feel if I type it that way I am not SAYING it...ugh)...it happens, honestly it was only a matter of time before it happened to someone...it just always seems to be the people you don't expect...makes my heart hurt....

And less important but more life altering for me....my parents might be moving to Texas....Texas...and not even to somewhere close, like Dallas (although that is another can of worms ALTOGETHER.)....it's Lubbock...I mean really...ew....I am digesting. Nothing is close to certain yet...but my mind won't stop thinking about what life will be like with less Colorado in it....plus...I am pretty sure I will have to take a trip and pack ALLLL my stuff and bring it back to my house if they move...so yea Colorado but I bet I will cry the entire trip....sigh....

Mexican food is only 8 hours away....Mexican food fixes many things....

Friday, sweet Friday!

I am SO happy it is Friday this week was LONG! It was not a bad week though, just a full week. Which I think is going to be the way life is for awhile. So to my point here...well my first point..

I had to give a presentation last night in my "Adolescence" class about the topic: When does Adolescence End? ...and guess what folks...it can last as late as 25. I would contend that men stay in adolescence through their 30's but that is just my speculation on the matter! Anyway, I am usually a MESS when I have to present things...I don't know what the deal is but that's a pressure I don't enjoy. However, last night I just took a breath and everything was fine, no jitters or butterflies, I just got up and talked. I also made everyone laugh but that was because I thought I was SOOO clever because I titled a slide "Cheesecake is neither cake or pie...discuss." Only a few people were reading my slides clearly because they laughed long before the rest of the class realized what I had done! I did that because in psychology I have noticed...there is no real answer to anything just theories and ideas that all conflict and are all right at the same time...ah human behavior...anywho...

Day 2 of my Fabulous Food Fest is tonight! There will be Italian Meatloaf and Gorgonzola Au Gratin Potatoes, followed on Saturday by Marinated Flank Steak with Caprese Couscous and Asparagus, to be followed on Sunday by something I have yet to determine...but it's going to be AWESOME!

I have really been enjoying my cooking a lot this week, new foods, my husband actually trying things and not being the pickyasaurus he usually is...I still don't enjoy cleaning up but I am working on that...I want to just snap my fingers and have everything be perfect...like Mary Poppins...I need Mary Poppins....hmmm....

Anyway! I have some work I actually have to do today...SHOCKER...better get after it!

Until then,

Workout Woes

So....I got bombarded by business this week and I have not gotten to go to the Y at all!!! This is very frustrating...I am going to have to re-vamp my plan I think....or re-vamp how I prioritize things...like Workout FIRST and then I can do anything else I want....must get this under control!

Anyway, it's Wednesday, I like Wednesday, I am sure I have said this before. This particular Wednesday is a good one, Tigers play tonight! First home conference game and we are going! Lucky us we get to sit in the Suntrust Box tonight! Let you know how that is! We need a big win tonight, I am afraid my boys might be getting discouraged, can't have that!

Grad school starts tomorrow....giant sigh....it's gonna be hard, it better be worth it!

Until then,

Food Glorious Food!

So several food topics to speak of this morning. First, I made Shrimp Scampi last night and it was delicious!

This is how it started: Peeled shrimp cooking in 1/2 cup unsalted butter and minced garlic...what more do you need?

Add 1/3 cup white wine (I don't care if you don't drink...if a recipe calls for wine get your tail to the store and buy some...that "cooking wine" is pure salt and will never do!)

MMM...looking good! While all the shrimp cooking is going on you should be bringing a pot of water to boil for your noodles. My preference is the "Al Dente" brand spinach linguine....it is SOO much better for you than other pasta and it doesn't have any weird flavor ....and I would know because my husband hates green things and will still eat it ;)

MMMMmmm.....

Ok, so if you want the whole recipe let me know...it will knock your socks off!

While I am in recipe mode, I got this Smoothie Recipe from Good Eats, Alton Brown....and I gotta say, I am fairly sure I will be having a smoothie for breakfast for the rest of my life...it was easy and guess what...I am done with fruits for the day! This is like the easiest thing to do EVER and you can switch up the fruit to your liking...although berries are the best for you. Check it out!

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces plain, low-fat soy milk
  • 4 ounces acai, grape, or pomegranate juice
  • 4 ounces frozen banana
  • 4 ounces frozen strawberries
  • 4 ounces frozen blueberries
  • 4 ounces frozen peaches

Directions

Combine the soy milk, juice, banana, strawberries, blueberries, and the peaches in the carafe of a blender. Cover and refrigerate overnight or up to 8 hours.

In the morning, or when the fruit is partially thawed, put the carafe on the base of the blender, start at the lowest speed and slowly accelerate to medium, until you achieve a vortex. Blend on medium for 1 minute. Increase the speed to high and blend for an additional minute. Serve immediately.

Ah....now that I have shared all that! Doing pretty well with 2010...it's only day 11 but I have a workout schedule written on a poster board (yes, with crayola markers too!) with goals, hanging in my closet so I HAVE to look at it EVERYDAY! It goes something like this:

  1. Sunday: Whole lot of NOTHING.
  2. Monday: Cardio & Pilates
  3. Tuesday: Jazzercise (my friends SWEAR it's worth it)
  4. Wednesday: Cardio & Pilates
  5. Thursday: Cardio & Weights
  6. Friday: Pilates again...my core is goona ROCK
  7. Saturday: Jazzercise!
It's a tall order but I am going to make it happen! Lookout Summer I am shooting for a REAL 2 piece this year!

Happy Monday!

All things new!

I love January, it is like an invitation to just start over. Forget that the last year you gained 10 lbs or didn't do all the things you said you would...just start over.

So falling in with this line of thinking I made Pre-Janaury resolutions. I find if I make true New Year's Resolutions I don't always stick with them...so I am trying out PRE- Resolutions (ok, so it was December 30th but still!) I am writing them for you so I have on record, in writing what I have determined, so when next December rolls around I can look back and see if I accomplished anything...the goal is to accomplish ALL but we will see...

1. Lose at least 30 lbs...seriously, I am 27 and haven't had any babies that is TOTALLY realistic.
2. Find a church and stay there. No more visiting just to say I am going.
3. Last year lacked any volunteering from me so, find some place to volunteer or serve the community.
4. Just be happier in general, I let too many things I can't control ruin my attitude...no more I say, no more!

Speaking of one of those things! Off to do some work! Lucky me! More tomorrow.
